With the 22nd Congressional District race now a three way contest, local elected officials are making their choices for whom to support.

Endorsed Republican candidate Claudia Tenney won the nomination over George Phillips and Steve Wells in last month’s Primary Elections. She now faces Independent Martin Babinec and Democrat Kim Myers for the seat in the General Elections in November.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says the most important thing to him is which candidate will represent the district the best, because he says he isn’t someone who is going to automatically endorse the Democratic candidate:

“When it comes down to it who’s going to fight for DFAS, who’s going to fight for Rome Labs, who’s going to fight for highway funding, who’s going to fight for our district in particular that’s what concerns me the most, and whoever I think can do that most effectively in Washington, that’s who I want to support,” Brindisi said.

Meanwhile, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says while he hasn’t decided who to back, it won’t be Claudia Tenney.

“I’ve been very clear on my position, I do not subscribe to her style of governing, of politics and you know why be a hypocrite and do that? I just can’t do that for a variety of reasons and I won’t,” Picente said.

Picente added he hasn’t ruled out siting this one out and letting the voters decide.
